COOKWell

Empowering food security and

boosting wellbeing in your community

Creating Community Food Champions of the future! All you need to know about how to make the most of community kitchens by running safe, engaging, affordable and inclusive community cooking hubs and clubs.

We deliver our day-long COOKWell training course to groups of people who wish to develop a good food culture and to reduce food insecurity in their community. The aim is to support people to tackle the barriers communities face when accessing, cooking and budgeting for affordable nutritious food. Taking a ‘train the trainer’ approach, the course aims to empower participants with the practical skills and knowledge to increase resilience to food insecurity within their community. The course was previously delivered as COOKBank to Housing Associations, Community Groups and the NHS, now relaunched as COOKWell as it will help you to boost wellbeing in your community.

Everyone deserves good food.

What Does COOKWell Include?

  • Defining ‘good’ food & why it’s crucial for our health & well-being.

  • Identifying the many barriers to cooking healthy food from scratch and looking at ways to break them down.
  • Discussing and implementing resourceful and sustainable solutions to food poverty by cooking creatively and using store cupboard ingredients to increase community resilience as the pandemic, Brexit, austerity and climate change make our food supply more fragile.
  • Raising awareness of ‘the bigger picture’ of food (in)security, the power of marketing and food waste.
  • Discussing ways in which you can support your community with nourishing, safely-prepared and culturally appropriate food, including setting up a Cracking Good Cooking Club.
  • A hearty meal!
  • Train the trainer approach – you will deliver a cooking workshop to each other incorporating these messages at the end of the training.
  • The COOKWell e-manual provides a robust reference guide beyond the course to enable graduates to coach team and community members to develop the skills and experience needed to work within their community setting.
  • Certificate of Achievement for each participant.
  • Most importantly, the inspiration to see how you can instil a flexible, accessible and affordable ‘good food culture’ into your community – because everyone deserves good food.
