To mark the 15th anniversary of Cracking Good Food’s launch in 2010 the Cracking Good Food Cookery School is back!
At our ethical, sustainable Cookery School every delicious dish you create goes beyond the kitchen. Your participation not only empowers you with culinary skills, but ALL fees support our community work to alleviate food, fuel and kitchen kit insecurity in Greater Manchester. Plus, each class booking provides a nourishing meal for the homeless community. This really is cooking from the heart.

‘TASTE IT!’ is our new Global Cookery School experience hosted at Freight Island.

We teach cook-from-scratch skills using healthy and nutritious, seasonal and sustainable ingredients, and where possible, sourcing from local suppliers.

Flavours of North India – Neha Garg Gupta PhD
Bring spice to your home kitchen as you learn how to make delicious North Indian food. Matar Paneer, Laccha Paratha and Pea Pilau are all on the menu. All ingredients and recipes provided. You will share the food you have created at the end of the class, and take home any leftovers.

Discover Real Chocolate – A Taste of Guatemala – Paddy Routledge
A hands-on intro to what chocolate really is, its origins, uses and evolution over millennia. Learn basic tempering techniques and ideas to try at home. Culminating in a delicious Guatemalan meal of Pepián, your own homemade truffles to take home, and plenty to taste along the way.

Tuesday 8th July

From Idli to Sambar: A South Indian Cooking Experience with Neha Garg Gupta PhD
Experience the vibrant flavours of South India in our cooking class, where you’ll learn to prepare traditional dishes like stuffed idlis, Uttapam, flavourful Sambar and aromatic coconut chutney. Bring the essence of South Indian cuisine to your home kitchen! All ingredients and recipes provided. During the evening you’ll enjoy the food you’ve prepared together and take any leftovers home with you.

Preserve and Ferment the seasons! – Alison Jones
Get stuck into making the versatile Korean staple kimchi, learn about its gut health boosting properties, along with other beneficial biome foods. You can also nab some great creative recipes that use these preserves.

No previous experience is required. Everything you’ll need to get started is provided at the session. You get to take home your fermenting buddy in your very own jar, ready to pop on top of a steaming bowl of rice a week later or just to eat straight from the jar, let’s be honest!

Basil & Bliss: Sustainable Italian Classics – Marta Napoleoni
Ciao! Join me for a hands-on evening of Italian cooking with a green twist. We’ll make authentic recipes using seasonal and eco-conscious ingredients. Learn the secrets to pillowy potato gnocchi and swirl them in homemade basil pesto. Transform day-old bread into fresh panzanella and whip a frothy Crema Al Caffè for dessert. Then, gather around our communal table to enjoy your creations — or take them home. All ingredients and recipes provided.

Kitchen Kit Call Out Campaign

We also ask our customers to look in their home cupboards and bring to the class any pre-loved, clean and working kitchen kit they no longer use! Your donated kitchen kit will be redistributed to communities across Greater Manchester, who are living in financial hardship and often in crisis, so don’t have the funds to buy basic kit to cook some of the most simplest of meals. We weigh all of our Kitchen Kit donations as they are redistributed. Here’s what we’ve achieved so far:
